Return of the King

Return to the King: INDIA

Posted by Bethany Hintz on March 13, 2023

We are so excited that you have decided to join us in prayer for the nations in preparation for the Return of the King! As we shared with you, we know this promise first requires a return TO the King (Matt 24:14) and are passionate about seeing the Nations transform into passionate Jesus lovers as a result of our prayers.

Over the next five weeks we are inviting you into praying with us for five of the least reached countries in the world. We'll be providing some current info about what is going on in the country right now, what it looks like to be a Christian there, and some specific prayer points (below) that you can join us and the rest of the worldwide Church in praying for that nation. We are so excited and expectant to embark on this mission of faith with you, and cannot wait to see all that God does both in the nations and in our hearts as we align ourselves with His worldwide perspective.

This week we are praying for India.

There are over 1.3 billion people that have never heard the name of Jesus in this country alone. Most of the country is Hindu, and the political leaders are trying to increase Hindu converts by forcing people into Hinduism and expelling anyone of "foreign roots". Tragically, this results in Christians, especially leaders and pastors, being widely persecuted and killed because of their faith.

But God is still moving.

Despite the significant persecution and strongholds the enemy is trying to build in India, he is not winning everywhere. In 1841, a missionary couple dropped everything and moved from Whales to the Khasi Hills in India. Their passion was prayer. Faithfully, Thomas and Anne Jones began integrating their way of life into the culture as they passionately prayed and hoped for a revival of new life to spring up around them. Five years in, they celebrated their first two converts' baptism. But this was only the beginning. Over the next twenty years, ten churches in that region were formed and hundreds of people came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and were discipled in having a passion for a revival of prayer in their nation. In 1902, a deep passion for prayer and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit began in one church in the region, spreading to hundreds of churches around, thus beginning the Khasi Revival. Picture hundreds of Christian Indians on their faces in prayer, being met by the Holy Spirit in miraculous ways. These fervent prayer meetings lasted three years and brought about a new identity to the region. Today over 75% of the population in Khasi is Christian, being known as a unique place of life and abundance throughout the country of India. And although the Jones family were never able to see the full impact of their obedience, they changed the trajectory of an entire region as a result of their prayers.

This is only one story of God miraculously working in the country of India, calling people to His heart and creating lasting change in the culture and economy. We believe that when we pray God actually does stuff to things, and you can see it happening already in this nation. This week we are coming alongside God's heart for India, asking Him to continue what He has begun and that He would do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.

So how can we specifically pray for India?

  • We first want to praise God for what He is doing in India and the way He is drawing people to Himself, protecting and providing for believers. Pray for His continued hand of covering to guide and give hope to the believers.
  • Pray for God's continued protection over Church leaders and their families as they increase in boldness to share the Gospel and share Christ in the midst of great darkness.
  • Pray the native converts' faith would have a genuine impact on their families and communities and that the Spirit would continue to take hold of people's hearts.
  • Pray for a change of understanding in the Indian identity that refuses to accept non-Hinduistic religions as valid. Pray that Indians realize their need for a redeeming Savior.
  • Pray for the millions of orphans, widows, and impoverished disabled people who do not get the care they need.
In pursuit that every tribe, tongue, and nation would hear of Jesus, and prepare for His return, we want to invite YOU to our summer initiative, Ascend The Hill! This will be three days of getting on our faces before our Lord and interceding for the Nations as we collectively ask God for more of His heart. Giveaway

As you may have heard, we're doing a small giveaway as part of this commitment to pray. Why? Because we believe that prayer does stuff to things. When we pray, God moves. Just like your small group leader might buy cookies, or your church might provide coffee on Sunday mornings, we want to remove as many barriers between your own flesh and what the Lord wants to do in the nations, as possible.

And if that means doing a silly contest to help motivate people to pray, well then that's what we'll do.

We want as many people as possible to be praying

So how does this work? We want YOU to start a prayer group. We want you to invite your parents, siblings, friends, and the random stranger you met in Walmart to join you as you pray for the nations. And to help you stay motivated: the leader of the largest prayer group will get a $50 chipotle gift card at the end of the 5 weeks of prayer!

So fill out this form. We'll text you a link to share and, at the end of the 5 weeks, if you host the largest group, we'll mail you a gift card, and maybe throw in some merch too!
