What is High5?
High5 is a discipleship and leadership training intensive for High School age students starting with one week in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado Springs, CO and ending with two weeks at the feet of the Himalayas in Kathmandu Nepal. Every High5 student will experience one-on-one discipleship, incredible outdoor adventures, hands on leadership training, an entirely new perspective, the church around the world, missions, and awesome times of getting to know the heart of God during prayer and worship.
High 5 is an environment for students to learn, be challenged, and put core leadership principles into practice in a real world discipleship context (and have a ton of fun doing it!) At its core, High5 is about studying the life and ways of Jesus and learning about how we can bend our own leadership journey around His life, ultimately so that we may lead more people into relationship with Him. Then getting to practically live that out by loving and leading some of the amazing people of Nepal.
What is High5 Not?
High5 is not a missions trip. The intention of going to Nepal is not for missions work, but instead to insert ourselves into a context in which we can further develop leaders. One of the biggest struggles in up-and-coming leaders is a limited perspective and a disproportionate value on self comfort. Going to a place like Nepal gives us the opportunity to serve and love others, while getting nothing in return. Unlike a mission trip, we will not be building a church, painting a school, etc… Instead we will simply be serving and loving the people there, especially the local believers. Our highest value to the Church around the world is not manual labor, but unity.
Nepal is in what is known as the 10/40 window which is a portion of the globe that contains 90% of the unreached people groups in the world. Amazingly, God is already at work in this small country and Nepal has one of the fastest growing Christian populations in the world. Right now Nepal is in the perfect position for a huge move of God. These new believers are in desperate need of discipleship; which just so happens to be what Rev5 does best!
The goal is to teach, disciple, challenge, and equip 6 to 10 passionate high-schoolers for one week in the U.S. and then take them over to a people who need Jesus in Nepal. It only takes a little bit of light to drive out the darkness! We will be doing everything from going to Hindu religious spots and praying that God would ‘bind the spirits that blind the minds of His children’ to loving on and teaching children in orphanages.
