Philosophy of Development

The Kingdom of Heaven is dualistic in its expansion; first, the Gospel message of Christ Jesus must be preached, and secondly, the messengers must reflect an ongoing process of being changed into the character of Christ and identifying with His interest in other people’s lives. Revolution5 is designed to help develop the whole person: emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. For this reason, the discipleship process consists of classroom and kinesthetic learning environments.

Why Revolution5? Our philosophy of development integrates a strategic process of both kinesthetic and academic knowledge in the training and development of young people. Only a fraction of what we hear is retained, but what is experienced can have a long-lasting residual in a persons life. Many of our training institutions today focus on the transfer of knowledge only. While this process is still valid, holistic development requires the integration of learned life-skills across spiritual, physical, mental and emotional aspects of life, which are most often acquired in a focused community context and learning environment. It is the old Hebrew rabbinic way of “Walk in the dust of my feet”, or we might otherwise say today, “Do life with me and I’ll disciple you in the ways of Jesus”. Programs don’t disciple people. People disciple people.

In the late sixties and seventies many para-church organizations began to spring up to assist the local church where the church was lacking in the development of people and evangelism. Over the years, many organizations began to offer specific classes or times of instruction, in an effort to make more knowledge available to more people. In the process, the context was increasingly marginalized to an academic learning environment with the single-directional transfer of information. Today we can statistically observe the massive amounts of information available to the faith-based community, and yet still the catastrophic losses we’re suffering. We who train in Christian character and development must reintegrate the experiential learning environment, whereby young people have the opportunity to internalize life-transformation – not simply a conforming to a particular set of ideas.

PHILOSOPHY OF CHURCH: Jesus said that the gates of hell would not prevail against His Church, the Body of Christ. Over the years many organizations have come and gone, but even under tremendous persecution the Church has grown and expanded. Revolution5 exists fundamentally to serve the local church by helping train believers to cultivate the expression of Christ in all seven spheres of society. By partnering with the local church we gain the advantage of sharing resources and wisdom, and investing long-term into the Body of Christ around the world. All students will be required to continue attending a local church of their choice, throughout the duration of the program, within the Colorado Springs community.

There are many streams within the Body of Christ. Our desire is to help unite various expressions of His Body by focusing on the core absolutes of the Scriptures. Psalms 133 says, “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! … for there the Lord bestows His blessing…” For this reason our theological guidelines are framed by the Nicene Creed.

CURRICULUM FOUNDATION: In the late 18th century a man by the name of Abraham Kuyper was rising to prominence as a vigorous statesman, politician, theologian and social reformer. His work began the genesis of what has become known today as the Seven Mountains or Seven Spheres of Society. In 1975, God gave the same strategic vision to three men – Loren Cunningham, founder of YWAM, Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade, and Francis Shaeffer, theologian and founder of L’Abri. It was a matrix of seven realms that exist within every developed culture: family, religion, economics, government, arts/entertainment, media and education. Through the years, the Church has retreated to the realm of religion, and in doing so relinquished the expression of Jesus Christ in the other spheres. In order to redeem the people of a culture we must engage and obtain insight into His move across each of these expressions in society. These Seven Mountains have been delineated into three that are “realms of influence”, and four that are “realms of authority”, ordained by God through Scripture.

Revolution5’s core curriculum focuses on the four “realms of authority”, that we will unpack through four modules over the course of nine months. You will learn God’s design for influence beginning in the Family, following into the Church, how the Church provides the moral foundation and infrastructure of sound economics and finally the implication of those three spheres in Government.
